Preparation for Holy Communion

Partaking of the Holy Mysteries is an essential part of our Christian life. In preparation for Holy Communion, one must read the Order of Preparation for Holy Communion. If possible, prepare for Holy Communion by reading all of the following, in this order:

• Prayers Prior to the Canon
• The Canons for Holy Communion, Odes I through VI
• An Akathist, either
  • Akathist to our Sweetest Lord Jesus Christ or
  • Akathist to our Most Holy Lady Theotokos
• The Canons for Holy Communion, Odes VII through XI
• Prayers Following the Canon
• The Order of Preparation for Holy Communion

One may also read:
